New Gallery Jumble

Posted on: October 19, 2011

London is awash with new wave jumble sales and I've popped along to most, all except this one in Peckham that not only has stalls selling second hand and handmade but also hosts free workshops. I figured the only way I'd get my ass South of the river is if I did a stall there.... Continue reading »

My little table of Thrift-ola finds for sale at the New Gallery Jumble last Saturday.

I’ve lived in London for 15 years and on Saturday I visited Peckham for the very first time. It was quite exciting. As I stepped off the 77 with my suitcase of swag the first landmark I spotted was a splendidly large eel and pie shop, so this East end girl felt immediately at home. Continue reading »

Hook Road Arena Car Boot Sale

October is traditionally the end of the car boot calendar and today another of my faves held it's season finale on a gloriously crisp and sunny Autumnal morning. Continue reading »

The perfect Autumnal morning spent sifting for treasure in a field in the middle of nowhere.

The perfect Autumnal morning spent sifting for treasure in a field in the middle of nowhere.

My friend and I were up and at ’em at 5am this morning ready for the last boot fair at Hook Road Arena for the year. It was rained off last week so this was a date added to the schedule at the last minute so I was a bit worried we’d rock up to an empty field. A bus and train journey later and we were stood in the beautiful morning sun surrounded by booty. Hurrah. Continue reading »

I’ve been lucky enough to work with Jazz on many projects over the years from organising crafty fun at her much loved Viva Cake nights to designing the Shoreditch Sisters WI rose emblem jewellery and showing a room bursting with WI gals how to make ’em. Continue reading »

New In! 50s & 60s Magazines

Posted on: October 14, 2011

A few months ago I met a vintage magazine dealer who was clearing out her amazing collection of midcentury movie and fashion titles. I cherry picked the issues with the best graphics, adverts, fashion, photo stories and gossip! Continue reading »

Picturegoer • June 1956

Picturegoer • June 1956

I pounced on the Picturegoer magazines from June 1956, July 1956 and July 1957. Picturegoer was a UK magazine published from 1913 til 1960 and featured films but more excitingly the behind-the-scenes real lives of film stars. It became particularly sensationalist in the 1950s to compete with the launch of rival magazines. To me, it’s like reading a gossip mag which is set in a much more glamorous era. Very entertaining. Living Room Sales

Just like yard sales and garage sales in the US but indoors because we're in good ol' blighty. Why lug your swag to shift at a boot sale when you can pop-up in your own front room? Continue reading »

A kidney shaped coffee table filled with fun junk jewellery.

Whilst I absolutely love buying someone else’s cast offs at a car boot sale I know it’s no fun at all to sell at a boot fair. Kilburn Car boot, 1999 – never again. So how very civilised to set up shop in your own front room and promote online. I’ve been invited to quite a few recently and was most miffed to miss out on the sale held by the visual merchandise girl from Beyond Retro a few weeks ago. Bah! Continue reading »
