The raw materials: patchwork table cloth & glitter knitting handles.

After a long weekend thrifting far and wide (and mostly in the rain) tonight I fancied staying in, keeping cozy and making something. A few weeks ago I found these amazing oversized glitter bag handles at the Wills-Moody jumble sale, so I dug through my big stash of textiles and matched them up to this 1970s printed patchwork cotton tablecloth. I whipped the dust jacket off my sewing machine and got handy with the scissors. I didn’t have a pattern so I just kinda made it up as I went along… Continue reading »

Thrift-ola in issue two of the hip new UK based craft zine Mollie Makes!

The UK handmade scene finally has it’s very own ace neo-craft magazine that celebrates making, collecting, thrifting and crafting. Issue two has literally just hit the newstands and features lots of fun D.I.Y projects from cute club felties, strawberry pin cushions and fabric pockets to jazz up a simple skirt. I also love the dreamy interiors articles which feature tea parties and vintage caravans and let us peek inside the work space of a fellow crafter. The design of the magazine is clean and modern with great use of pretty illustrations and plenty of beautiful photographs. Inspiring stuff. Continue reading »

Vintage by Hemingway at Southbank Centre 2011

Vintage by Hemingway at Southbank Centre 2011

I’m working as part of the digital team at Hemingway Design! More specifically I’m helping run the multi author blog on the Vintage website. Mostly I’ve been sub editing and uploading posts written by other people but recently I’ve been given the opportunity to write my own articles. I’m covering vintage exhibitions such as Beautiful & Damned and Fifties, Fashion & Emerging Feminism and my first series is called Style Crush, so far I’ve looked at Teddy Girls and Mods. I’m now researching a new series all about vintage dance crazes which should start to go online from next week. The festival is now under two months away and I’m so, so excited. Follow everything that’s happening on our Twitter (which I should be tweeting from along with fellow digital team member Serena) and our Facebook page. Most of all though keep a regular eye on our blog, there’s some really great stuff on it and even better stuff to come! If there’s anything you think we should be covering let me know…

Super old poster I snapped in a hardware store in Whitstable, Kent

How it works………
1. E-mail leona@thrift-ola.com with the product name & the price you’d like to pay.
2. If I accept the offer, I’ll e-mail you back and change the price of the product to what you’d like to pay for the rest of the day – although you’ll have to quickly snap it up before someone else does.
3. If I don’t accept your offer, I’ll send you a counter offer and the haggle begins.

Make Me An Offer Monday starts NOW until midnight tonight. Go shop!
