Last weekend my friend and I went thrifting along the Sussex coast and I picked up three lovely vintage typewriters. A 1950’s Halda made in Sweden, a 1960’s Petite made in England and a 1980’s Blue Fox made in Japan. Brush aside the digital age today and fall in love with letter writing the old fashioned way, create that zine you’ve always talked about or simply have fun writing your weekly shopping list. Maybe you might just write a masterpiece on it like these famous authors did on their typewriters.

Tomorrow morning I start a 2 day a week internship! It’ll be the first time I’ve gone to work in a studio for someone else in about 10 years. Eek. On the weekend I decided to thrift some stuff I might need… a book to read on the long tube journey, some Tupperware for my homemade lunch, a 1950’s notebook (which matches what I’ll be working on during my first week) and a deer cross stitch kit so I’ve got something to do at lunchtime. Wish me luck!

Last Saturday afternoon I went on a magical mystery tour to Fulham Broadway in search of a pretty little gallery full of printmaking workshop fun. Continue reading »

Last night I attended the Museum of London where Caryn Franklin was in conversation with Wayne Hemingway for 1 magical hour. I hugely enjoyed his stories peppered with precise facts and he didn’t gloss over the mistakes they made along the way either like the Red or Dead one-legged-legging. They only ever sold one pair and that was returned the next day. He talked about sourcing from jumble sales to stock their 14 stall strong pitch at Camden in the early 80s and images flashed up on the screen behind from his home which is also decorated with reupholstered midcentury furniture purchased for peanuts back in the day.
