I think I’ve been quite vocal about Thrift-ola not taking part in any events this summer as I try to concentrate on sourcing stock and running the website. Towards the end of LLROK we were doing a couple of events every month from fetes at the V&A and Somerset House to pop-up tea shoppes in vintage and craft fairs. They were so much fun, but also a lot of hard work which for a small business can sometimes take you away from working on the more key elements. HOWEVER, I have made one exception this summer and that’s for my dear gal-pals the Shoreditch Sisters who I did my first event with back in 2006 when they were Viva Cake. They’re hosting a big ol’ marquee at Jamie Oliver’s first ever Big Feastival and they have so many fun things happening in it including Lucy in Disguise, the Beehive Bakery, WAH nails, musical bingo, urban cross stitch, Marawa the hula hooping queen and more. Visit the website here and if you’re in London town do pop by and say hi! I can’t wait to eat, drink, craft and be merry…

When I worked as a stylist we often rented a Photographer’s warehouse space which doubled as a studio and in the corner hung a rattan chair and the models would sit in it to have their make-up done. I absolutely loved it and finally bought my very own from Spitalfield’s Antiques Market about 8 years ago and it’s my favourite chair in the house. It’s positioned next to a huge window and I snuggle up in it atop a sheepskin rug and underneath a Babycham blanket drinking tea, reading magazines or just staring out of the window and daydreaming. Yesterday, I hopped on a train at Waterloo to head home for Father’s Day. I snuck off twice to trawl charity shops at both Basingstoke (torrential rain) & Winchester (hail stones). With no umbrella I made do with my granny rainhood; which I don’t think the good folks of Basingstoke town centre really understood. Hey-ho. Chazza shop of the day was the RSPCA, practically everything for sale in it is animal related. Yay. There was no Father’s day lie-in for the ol’ man as he accompanied me to Brookfield car boot sale this morning where I treated him to a boot sale burger breakfast and tea and the sun did shine. It was quite lovely. I’ve hauled all my loot back to the Wick and plan to shoot ‘n’ list my finds to the site tomorrow, although I’ll be holding back some of the kitchen and craft related items for a special event happening with the Shoreditch Sisters in a few weeks time. I’ll tell you all about that one tomorrow. Off to spend the evening making Elderflower champagne. Anyone tried that before?

Last night I headed across town in the torrential rain to Craft Central in Clerkenwell. It’s the first time I’ve had the pleasure of visiting this cute space dedicated to ensuring craft and design has a strong future. It’s currently home to printmaking extraordinaire Xtina Lamb from Printed Wonders and the Seaside Sisters and last night she was revealing the magic of Print Gocco to a room full of excited creative gals. I have to store them up high otherwise my two kitties will want to ‘play’ with them. This is not a good thing. All these cute fifties cats are available in the Bric-a-Brac Shelf collection. I have more cat related items here.
