This was my first ever visit to Britain’s most famous bi-monthly flea market and when we arrived I did a kind of little jig on the spot as I couldn’t decide which direction to go in first. My friend goes there on a regular basis to source vintage jewellery to adorn her beautiful handmade headpieces so she was straight down to business. I decided to stay outside where all the huge vans are parked up with their wares spilled out all over the show. It was kind of like a one stop shop of everything and anything your vintage heart desires. I really didn’t want to leave. They have a website here.

Last night I attended the Museum of London where Caryn Franklin was in conversation with Wayne Hemingway for 1 magical hour. I hugely enjoyed his stories peppered with precise facts and he didn’t gloss over the mistakes they made along the way either like the Red or Dead one-legged-legging. They only ever sold one pair and that was returned the next day. He talked about sourcing from jumble sales to stock their 14 stall strong pitch at Camden in the early 80s and images flashed up on the screen behind from his home which is also decorated with reupholstered midcentury furniture purchased for peanuts back in the day. I was drawn to this ginormous 1970’s chipmunk cookie jar from the moment I stepped foot into Help the Aged in Eastleigh, Hampshire – my hometown nonetheless. His cap is the lid and he’s stamped with ‘Japan’ on the underside, natch. On closer inspection the poor fella had lots of little chips all over his ceramic body, but does this matter? I wouldn’t mind personally but felt it could disappoint a Thrift-ola patron. So I left him sat there *sob* did I do the right thing? I’m not so sure now…
