I’m no stranger to 5am starts as that’s when my day in the office (read: field/car park) usually begins so when my alarm went off this morning and it was pouring with rain which stops all thrifting play I decided to swap my thermals for my disco pants.
A few months ago a new girl moved into my pal’s studio and she was organising morning raves where you could get massages, smoothies and it was all about conscious clubbing. I’ll be honest, my trashbat bells starting ringing and I thought it sounded like a scene from the Rainbow Rhythms episode of Peep Show. Uh-oh. A few months on and the invite was still on the table so after a few wines on Saturday night I agreed to go if it was raining and I could’t go thrifting. Continue reading »

I’m a big fan of Miss Kim Lawler, fellow cat lover and creative captain of Finest Imaginary. Not only does she design her own jewellery, accessories, stationery and homewares she also crafts websites. Now that’s one sassy momma! This weekend she’ll be packing up her wares and heading to London’s Renegade Craft Fair toting her cool polar collection and kitty cat coasters amongst other things but today she revealed a super sale that got Thrift-ola Towers a little hot under our peter pan collar… Kim has decided to sell off hundreds of pieces of old stock for just £3 a pop. Ooooh-ahhhh. Designs include: Grr/arg, science beakers, flasks and cylinders, apples, zombies, cowboys, ninjas, wow/pow and monocle man necklaces. Postage is 90p.
Quick, hurry and make great haste over to the FI Facebook page to snap this deal up pronto!

Before you travel – I always pop into the Post Office for my foreign currency as they don’t charge commission, but after cycling around most of the counters in Hackney looking for Danish Krone on the day we were travelling I found it was a currency you had to order in. So, be prepared and of course if heading to flea markets be sure to ask for small notes too so after haggling you don’t have to hand over a big note. Never cool.
10am – Fuel up for the day with a strong coffee from Sort Kaffe og Vinyl; a super bijou coffee and record shop located on Skydebanegade enroute to Vesterbro. The beans are sourced from local roasters Risteriet and you can get your thrifting off to a good start by crate diggin’ out the back where the vintage vinyl resides. Continue reading »

Thrift-ola is a considered collection of midcentury to modern, colourful ‘n fun objects and wares. I do however, from time to time, unearth a variety of other vintage treats that catch my eye yet don’t quite fit in with Thrift-ola’s ethos. This exciting bunch of goods will be bundled up into a series of flash sales hosted on Twitter. Last week I held a furniture sale which included this incredibly unique sewing box come magazine rack contraption I found at a flea market in France. Cute, huh?
I do of course also partake in witty banter, links to jumble sales, vintage fairs and the like and I’m always on the hunt for recommendations which I’ll RT coz sharing is caring!
Here I am – https://twitter.com/Thriftola Look forward to meeting you…

I don’t often rummage a Saturday afternoon away on Stoke Newington’s increasingly neat and tidy Church St but then this was my first ever day of crate digging! After 20 years of thrifting, I’ve finally lifted the lid on collecting vinyl and the discovery of Get Lucky yesterday was a joy and a pleasure and a real reason why I must get a basket for my Raleigh Caprice so I can carry more home.
This fabuslously old fashioned second hand record store and book shop is like walking into a piece of living breathing pop culture. It’s literally bursting at the seams with every single piece of wall space covered with 7″ singles, rare and novelty LPs, comics ‘n paperbacks and shelving towering up to the ceiling and crate upon crate of music to discover. I can imagine Joey Ramone hanging out the back and searching for Bowie and Beatles records. Continue reading »
